Biography

Gordon was born in Stalybridge on October 4th 1947. He has lived in the town ever since. He was educated at West Hill Sec Mod School and was taught by the talented water colourist Owen Traynor, who gave him a good start at school and lots of help and encouragement ever since. Although trained as an engineer,it is to his art that he returns every evening, "I love to work every day on my drawings as I have still so much inspiration, I grew up in the sixties when the world was full of Icons and real stars, images that seem to be missing today, we seem to live in a world where everything is the same whether it be in music, film or television"

Gordons influences range from David Oxterby for his wonderful interpretations of the worlds greatest rock and roll stars to the pre-Raphealites, especially Burn Jones and Rossettee. "I love the detail in their work and have strived to get near them myself over the years". Gordon now works from a 200yr old converted cotton mill in Mossley Lancs. ''Wooend Mill'' It gives me so much pleasure to come to work now, I have fantastic views along the river and canel,

His first one-man exhibition was at the prestigious Astley Cheetham Gallery Stalybridge and took over twenty five years to complete, it was called HOLLYWOOD and ROCK AND ROLL and exhibited in 2001 to great reviews, three years later and his new exhibition was opened at the 'Peoples Gallery' based in Stalybridge, called ICONS a collection of twenty new portraits some of which are drawn in pastels for the first time.
